January 31st is National Inspire Your Heart with Art Day, a day to ponder how art affects our lives, and to encourage us to explore the many genres of art and to let it inspire us!

Here at Gallery On The Go, we are inspired each and everyday by the art that is around us and by our customers that paint and party with us! But in the day-to-day hum of life, it’s good to be reminded to seek out art and appreciate the beauty around us! Looking for ways to inspire your heart with art? We’ve put together a list of 10 ideas to get those creative juices churning!

#1) Take pictures of public art!

Most public construction projects encourage the creation of public art, and typically one to two percent of the total project cost is allocated for artwork! Head downtown and look for beautiful art – it’s all around you!

#2) Visit an art gallery or museum!

When was the last time you visited an art gallery or museum? My 13 year old son and I recently had a day date while the hubby and daughter were out of town for a volleyball tournament, and imagine my surprise when I asked him where he wanted to go and he suggested the art museum. I’ll let you in on a little secret…..it’s awesome! There were lots of interactive exhibits, friendly people answering questions, and beautiful art to appreciate. Need more reasons to visit an art museum….here are 10 of them!

#3) Read something besides your Twitter feed!

You know those people that you go to the movie with, and after the movie they gush on and on about how the book was waaaaay better than the movie. Well the truth is, it usually is. And not only are books better than movies, there are so many benefits to reading (here are just a few!), so put down that iPhone and pick up a book!

#4) Find a local slam poetry competition!

This ain’t your Grandma’s poetry! Passionate and raw, a slam poem moves the audience through different moods and topics. Many bars, coffee shops and even libraries host open mic nights if you want to drop your own slam poem!

#5) Rock out to live music!

They say when words fail, music speaks. If the last live music you heard was yourself singing in the shower, it’s time to get out and support local musicians in your community!

#6) Take a dance class!

Salsa, hip-hop, ballroom, line dancing…..however you like to shake it! I always find it amazing that before a baby can sit up, crawl, walk or talk….they can dance! It’s in our DNA! Turn on the tunes and they happily start kicking to the music! Somewhere along the way we lose that, so it’s time to get your groove back! Check out Groupon for awesome deals on dance lessons in your area!

#7) Host a movie night and watch an Indie film!

Skip the latest Hollywood blockbuster and support the little guy! Here’s a list of the Top 25 Best Independent Movies Streaming on Netflix Right Now!

#8) Break out the coloring book!

Who would’ve thought that adult coloring books would make Amazon’s bestselling books list?! It turns out adults like to color as much as kids. Coloring can lift your mood, reduce anxiety and relieve stress. So go ahead, color outside the lines!

#9) Go to the theater!

The theater has been around for thousands of years, and for good reason….it’s awesome! The music, stage, actors, singing, lights, dancing, costumes – it all comes together to ignite every one of your creative senses! And you don’t have to wait for Broadway to see a good production, check out your local dinner theater, kid’s theater, or high school production!

#10) Host a painting party!

Get the gang together and channel your inner Bob Ross! It’s easy and affordable, and guaranteed to bring out creativity, fun and laughter. What can be more artistic than that?! Contact your Gallery Guide or visit us at www.GalleryOnTheGo.com to plan your party!

And then you can show off your artsy self by downloading and sharing your I Arted sticker!

And remember, we don’t need a National day to celebrate art. You can inspire your heart all year long <3!

Cheers 🙂 M
